an ounce of loyalty

... is worth a pound of cleverness.

being part of a sorority, i understand the importance of loyalty and the danger of not standing by the institution which i represent. in Sigma Legis, we are taught that genuine help should not be asked by a person in need, but something that we should, as a matter of loyalty, extend without conditions. when we help, consider it done. no but's, no if's. no hesitation. no backing out the last minute.

sometimes some of us forget that it is our bounden duty to save each other. sometimes some of us still get overwhelmed by simple acts of kindness that we had to say thank you. there's really no need to show appreciation because each one of us proved our worth to be part of the bond. however, that's another thing we do; we show gratitude because although help is a demandable right, we acknowledge that the amount of effort exerted is always greater than if sought from others.

helping is not "going-out-of-our-way" because it's just along the way. if a person is loyal, you both stand on the same side; both trek the same path; both move in the same direction. if a person is loyal, she doesn't have to say sorry. if a person is loyal, she doesn't have to be proud to deserve praise. if a person is loyal, she knows that to be herself is enough and no explanation is needed.

this was taken during our recollection last april 2. the batch was not complete, but it was a spiritually fruitful day for all of us. hopefully, God will grant our batch prayer for a 100% passing rate in this year's Bar Exams. we owe it to our families. we owe it to our school. and most especially, we owe it to ourselves.
